2008 Summer Leagues
NEW: 5/13/08
Chicago Ultimate Players!

At long last, the time for Summer League is here. Hard to believe, seeing as how Spring never really arrived, but the calendar never lies.

This year, there will be five different leagues to choose from for your summer enjoyment. The details about each are below, but the important thing to keep in mind is that registration starts on MONDAY, MAY 12 at noon and ends at 11:59pm on MONDAY, MAY 26. Your registration must be COMPLETE by the deadline. This means you must be registered, waivered, AND paid by then or you will not be included in summer league this year!

Monday, May 26 (Memorial Day) just happens to be the date of the Kickoff Hat Tournament. This will start at 10am at Washington Park. Just look for the flying plastic.

CUSL
This is the traditional Chicago Ultimate Summer League. All levels of players are welcome. CUSL PLAYS ON MON AND WED - IF YOU SIGN UP FOR THE COMPETITIVE LEAGUE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SIGN UP FOR CUSL.

OPEN League
This year, for the first time, concurrent with CUSL, we will be offering an Open League (open to all gender). There will be no gender restrictions for either play or registration in the Open League. Any men who cannot be placed into CUSL will immediately be given the option to play in the Open League, as will their buddy groups. Anyone who wants to can also simply register directly for the Open League.

COMPETITIVE League
For the second year, Chicago Ultimate will be offering a co-ed competitive league one night per week. This league is for experienced players with a competitive, and is highly recommended for those who play club ultimate, participate on a college team, or who have played league ultimate for several years and are looking to step up their game. Those who play in the competitive league cannot also play in CUSL - no exceptions.

THURSDAY League
Once again, Chicago Ultimate will also be offering the Thursday League, which is structured to be geared more towards beginning players. The emphasis is on instruction and learning, rather than on competition.

WEST League
Once again, Chicago Ultimate will be offering a West League out in the Western Suburbs, Carol Stream this year.

UPA Series Volunteer Observers
The UPA College Series is right around the corner, and the UPA is looking for volunteers to help out Observing at Sectionals (April 12-13 Naperville, IL) and Regionals (April 26-27 Detroit, MI). Volunteers do not need to be certified Observers to help out. Please contact Matthew Whited, the Great Lakes Regional Observer Coordinator, at upa_gl_roc@upa.org if you are interested in volunteering.

Thanks,
Matt Whited

New Message Board
Ultimate Chicago now has a new message board for all of its member to enjoy!

Quickstart
1) Navigate to the new Ultimate Chicago Message Board - http://www.ultimatechicago.org/msgboard
OR access it from the top navigation panel: Ultimate Chicago -> Message Board

2) Register to use the message board by using the Register link at the top of the main message board page http://www.ultimatechicago.org/msgboard/profile.php?mode=register

3) Use the e-mail address and password that you use to login to the regular Ultimate Chicago site. You may choose any username you like, this can be your name or just a nickname or moniker that you like to use. Obviously, make sure it is appropriate.

4) After you click the Register button and your registration completes, you should be redirected to the Profile page. Please browse through this and fill out any relevant information that you want displayed publicly. Also look through the Preferences section, there are a lot of settings here that affect the way that you and the board will interact. Make sure you Submit any changes that you make on this page.

5) You are now ready to get posting. The forum names and descriptions should be relatively straight-forward, but if you have any questions about the forum, please use the forum to ask. We are constantly looking for feedback. Your input will go directly into improving our message board. This goes without saying, but please let's keep the board relatively clean and mature and generally safe for all of us to use at work.

6) One last note to give credit where credit is due: although I did spend a decent amount of time working on cross-authentication between this board and our site, as well as configuration and custom dev based on beta tester input, I did not design the underlying infrastructure for this board. It was freely provided by phpbb - http://www.phpbb.com.
