Founded in 1983 as a natural progression of players from the Heroines (Chicago's Edith Therber, Mary Meeker, Anne & Sheila, Amy Bekken, Denise Tompary, Laura Giampino, Patti McCarthy, Madelaine, Becky Ruether), Divine Wind (SIU's Sheryl Hirschbein, Michele Whitehead, Peggy Browning, Sarah Goldenberg, Big Jane, Chris, Beth, Sara Lyter) and U of I's Mimi Ruether and Nan Babaconyak, Nemesis - Chicago's elite Ultimate Frisbee team - will celebrate 26 years since its inception, representing one of the longest-running legacies for a team's identity in an often tumultuous sport. We thought of ourselves as the goddesses of antagonism and punishment, the logo was a snake with flowing hair. The team has been a traditional force in the Midwest, winning the regional championship multiple times and qualifying for the national championships of ultimate far more years than not.

There were only a few competitive women's teams from the Midwest in the early 80's, including Ann Arbor MI, Betty from Lawrence KS, St. Louis, and the mighty Fishheads from Michigan State.

Practice was held 5 days a week. No one ever blew it off! Early 80's behind the pink building on the lake, at Bryn Mawr. Weekends would alternate up to "the landfill" at Northwestern, the good old days of jumping in the frigid lake to cool off. Played under the lights behind a candy company off Irving and Western (near Mim's house), inhaling butterscotch fumes, wanting to puke. Migrated to Schiller.

We did not wear uniforms or have numbers. Dark or light was the standard.
